Switching or disconnecting an account

Disconnecting a social account, fixing a wrong one, and personal or product accounts.

How do I disconnect a social account or connect a different one?#

Open Settings at the bottom of the sidebar, then Social accounts. The screen is grouped by project: each project is a section you expand, with a single list of platforms inside, Reddit, X, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Facebook, each with either a Disconnect or a Connect button. That screen is always available, whatever else is going on in your account, and it is the route we recommend.

Disconnecting is the Disconnect button plus a confirmation. For Reddit and X the confirmation reads "HeyCatch will stop using this account to find catches and draft replies". For Instagram, TikTok and YouTube it reads "HeyCatch will stop publishing your videos to Instagram", with the platform you are disconnecting.

Reddit and X can also be disconnected from Catches: press Account health in the platform header, then Disconnect account in the top right of the panel.

It connected the wrong account. How do I fix it?#

Disconnect it under Settings, then Social accounts. Then log out of the wrong account in your browser, or connect from a private window, before you press Connect again. The screen says the same thing: sign in to an account in this browser before you connect it. The connect window picks up whichever account is already logged in, so otherwise it pulls the same one straight back.

One display quirk worth knowing about Facebook: a connected Facebook account can show up as a numeric ID, for example @103898185880373, instead of a name. That is how the connection is reported, it is normal, and it is not a sign that the wrong account is connected.

Should I use my personal social accounts or create new ones for my product?#

It depends on the platform.

  1. Instagram, TikTok and YouTube: make a separate account for the product. HeyCatch publishes videos to those on a schedule, and that volume of product content is not what your personal followers signed up for. The same goes for Facebook, where you connect a Facebook Page rather than a personal profile.
  2. Reddit: the opposite. Use an existing account with real history if you have one, because a brand new account starts at the bottom of every signal Reddit looks at. If you must use a new one, warm it up with comments before you post.
